What is a Wisconsin dairyman’s daughter doing in Mazatlan, Mexico? Why painting the amazing scenes of this vibrant place of course. Susan spends winters in Mazatlan and summers on San Juan Island north of Puget Sound. From the shores of Great Lake Superior to the waters of the Pacific, Susan has found this way to communicate nature’s sublime power and solace, the spirit of the people, and the human condition. She has counseled and taught people of all ages in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Oregon and Washington. In 2009 Susan wrote and illustrated My Champion, an award winning children’s book that showcases her experiences and her paintings. Using palette knife and brush with oils on canvas, Susan uses vivid color and drama hoping always to capture a story to delight the viewer. Her subjects are common people at work, at play and sometimes immersed in a meaningful moment. Always after the “unforgettable” Susan continues to develop technique and excellence in writing, illustration and fine art.
